Say hello to the most stunning earthy boho styled shoot you’ve ever seen in your entire life!
“This bride tribe duo were great models for our themed styled shoot. We had an incredible cast of vendors that all believed in teamwork makes the dream work, and we were able to pull this shoot off effortlessly.
Always one to steer from the norm, I wanted to take a different approach with this shoot and envisioned an earthy, afro and boho vibe with a hint of moody inspiration from the classic movie, Eve’s Bayou. I wanted to do a take on two best friends spending their last day together at a fun photoshoot to capture their sisterhood and culture before the bride’s life changes forever. For the next day she becomes a wife.
The models were cast for their naturally curly and coily afro hairstyles; because I knew from the start their hair would be adorned with florals and jewels. I searched around until I located a henna artist, Glamour Faces by Anshu, which could provide white henna artistry on the hands of the models. And lucky for us, she also doubled as a makeup artist and made sure each model not only had a soft glam look — but she also highlighted them with tribal accents to align with our theme even more.
I knew I wanted them dressed in more vintage styles; so shout out to my local thrift stores and Marketplace pages for the win on both their dresses. The bride’s gown was around $30; while the bridesmaid dress was an unbelievable $10. I was able to acquire some really unique jewelry and accessory pieces that complemented their gowns really nicely from the Wild Dill, Alyson Nicole Collection and Wild Jae Jewelry.
The Gypc Wagen was made to appear in a shoot like this! It tied in well on so many levels, vintage of course; it’s from the 1970s – but also earthy and boho; as the owner arrived with a bonanza of props that fit right into our theme. She was like the Queen of all things boho, wicker, macrame, hide skin rug and vintage luggage.
The floral team showed up and showed out. I only picked a monotone color palette of simple ivory and blush pinks. But Brenham Wildflowers brought in bold pops of color in the bouquets and arrangements she created and everything blended perfectly.
Hannah Sola provided a wooden bouquet as well and said, “With this bouquet, I decided to do a play on the typical “blush” bouquet and went more peach with the color tones. I chose the greenery and filler so it had a wild, whimsy, almost fluffy look with bunches of small flowers as the background for the focal flowers. One of my favorite things to do is hand painting so I painted the lace fabric used on the large lily flower in the bouquet. I hoped it would remain subtle, but add a touch of flare.”
The Sweet Cupfe was our baker of choice for a square double-tiered vanilla and almond white cake with mixed berry compote; and perfectly iced with buttercream. We told her to surprise us with the flavor and it just doesn’t get any better than that. We topped it with a handmade macrame cake topper from Knotsocrafty Designs.
We ended the successful shoot with the bride tribe duo devouring the donut props we’d used from the shoot. I was able to snap a few fun shots of them holding the donut signage from BoBeeInc.”
